Research part 1
On my research paper part one I stayed focused on one source and one case that happened. The case was a shocking and heartbreaking one; just to see and read how our protectors would do the innocent. The civilian was a homeless Caucasian male that had a mental illness called schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder characterized by loss of contact with the environment, by noticeable deterioration in the level of functioning in everyday life, and by disintegration of personality expressed as disorder of feeling, thought (as delusions), perception (as hallucinations), and behavior called also dementia praecox. The two officers approached the citizen and started hitting and kicking him. As this attack continued more officers arrived and instead of stopping the attack they also joined in. Punching, kicking, stomping, and also tasing him until they seemed to get tired. They civilian was crying out for help during the entire attack. He screamed at the top of his lungs several times that he was sorry and at one point cried out for his father. The officers ignored him and continued even when he said he could not breath. One officer said his taser ran out and he ran out of option so he decided to beat his face to hell. If the civilian was resisting arrest and fighting them then I would have understood why they did what they did a little. But he was not bothering anyone, resisting arrest, or fighting back. The officers should be fired and fined for their unnecessary attack. The man died five days after his the incident due to breathing failure. The officers had pleaded not guilty as if they did not attack the citizen in court. I do not know what kind of punishment they received, but I feel as the court should give them some time in jail so they can realize what they have done. If I was the judge I would make them pay all the medical bills, the funeral bills, and they would serve ten to twelve years in prison.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The "Letter From a Birmingham Jail" is a good and educational letter. He spoke in a tone that probably shocked alot of people in that time. I'm sure there was not many African Americans back then with an education or knowledge of words like Dr. King used. In it you can tell that he got emotional at some points of his letter. For example, on page three, paragraph three, the last two sentences he says; "This "Wait" has almost always meant "Never." "We must come to see, with one of our distinguished jurists, that justice too long delayed is justice denied." Dr. King talks about unjust and just laws, and as he talks about them he gives several examples of unjust and just laws. He says "An unjust law is a code that a numercial or power majority group compels a minority group to obey but does not make binding on itself." He states after that "By the same token, a just law is a code that a majority compels a minority to follow and that it is willing to follow itself." He uses a lot of sources in his letter to the clergymen. Dr. King addresses many important factors about what is going on during that time. He makes it known that he is dedicated to fighting for African American rights and it is a very serious factor to him. He talks about how this people are mistreated and called out of their name. For instances in one part of the letter he gives the example that the first name is "nigger," middle name is "boy," and the last name being "John." They treat African Americans as if they were not apart of the human race and Dr. King found this pure ignorance which is understandable. Dr. Martin Luther King also speaks about how African American's could not even have a cup of coffee at the same the counter as a white.

Corruption in the Police Force
There is a existing problem in Memphis that not only happens in Memphis, but in many cities in America. Police are becoming the villain rather than the hero. When giving authority police become hungry with power, and use it in a negative rather than help citizens which is the job description. They feel as if they are better or above the people they are suppose to be protecting. They seem to forget the main purpose of why they chose their job or what the initial purpose of the job is. Their job is to protect and serve the city of Memphis and try to make it a safe and a better place for citizens to live. Police officers are suppose to patrol areas of the city, and neighborhoods at different times of the hour making sure there is no violence or crimes occurring. Although there are some police officers that are committed to their job and actually protect citizens, some have no intention in making sure no violence ever occurs. It has been many cases where the police were suspected to have harm or even kill the suspect for no reason at all. For example the ongoing case about Chavez Carter whom supposedly committed suicide handcuffed in the back of a police car. Citizens, political leaders, and of course his family believe it was a murder committed by the police that took Chavez Carter into custody. The police and the police department denies any involvement in the murder and insist the young man killed himself. The case is a perfect example of police brutality. The police has yet to be prosecuted or blame for the tragic murder. In any case where the police has been suspected to have been the prime suspect for brutality, murder, or even simple wrongful arrest the people barely hear about the police being charged or even suspended. Police seem to find an enjoyment in harassing citizens and giving them problems. This has been an ongoing argument for many years and the problem still has not been fixed and barely address.

Story of my neighborhood
A small city called Jackson TN is the place I was born and raised. Jackson is the center point between Nashville and Memphis. My city is not that big of a city, and it is not known for much. My town is a very supportive community when it comes to the schools and sports. There are five elementary schools, five middle schools, seven high schools, and five colleges in Jackson. The community of Jackson is a very friendly and hospitable. Everyone talks to each other like they grew up together their whole life. Even if you never met them before the conversation you will be able to have a full conversation as if you already knew them. It is a cool, relaxing place to live. Its not like Memphis. There are a lot more friendly people in Jackson. People there will give you a helping hand anytime you need it. Life there is like life here though. You have all of your different ethnic groups, religions, political groups and more. The number one sport is football there. It was basketball at one point, but around the year 2007 football became popular there. The rival games are always filmed on television for the week. The city is real supportive to the athletic departments. The banks and other companies sponsors the teams and donates money to help them out. Most of the neighborhoods are nice and comfortable and have neighborhood watch programs. Some of them even throw block parties for everyone that live in the neighborhood could attend. The block parties consist of food, music, and games. It is a way to meet your fellow neighbors and get to know each other. Its also a opportunity for the kids to make no friends. Jackson is just a loving town that you should come visit some time. There are plenty of restaurants and other places to go if you want to enjoy yourself.
